How to choose who sees your status on WhatsApp

The application houses multiple privacy options

Some users assume that having a presence on social networks or instant messaging applications (such as WhatsApp ) implies exposing our information and snapshots to anyone. The truth is that these platforms host all kinds of options called to safeguard privacy , although most do not use them because they take away the iron from the matter or mere ignorance.

Below we describe, step by step, how to determine who has access to our WhatsApp statuses.

In WhatsApp for iPhone we select ‘ Settings ‘ in the lower right corner of the smartphone screen. In Android we click on the three vertical points in the upper right corner.

Click on ‘Account’ on the ‘Settings’ or ‘Settings’ screen and then on ‘ Privacy ‘.

Among the options offered we are interested in ‘ States ‘. When clicking on it we must choose between ‘My contacts’ (we share the states with all of them), ‘My contacts except’ (we share the states with all the contacts except the people we choose) and ‘Only share with’ (we share the states only with the people we choose).

Let’s say we want to prevent our boss from seeing the states we share. In that case we will choose ‘ My contacts, except … ‘ and, in the alphabetical list that will appear, we will select the name with which we have it scheduled. Finally we will press ‘Ok’.

If we only want to share the statuses with our best friend (for another example), click on ‘ Only share with … ‘ and the name of the aforementioned, confirming with ‘Ok’.

From the ‘Privacy’ section of WhatsApp you can also choose who can see the time of our last connection or our profile photo. We are also allowed to select who can add us to conversation groups.

Keep in mind, however, that changes in the privacy settings will not affect the statuses that we have previously published .
